Although #COMPASS has a set cast of playable heroes, each of these heroes has backstories and lore associated with them. This page is dedicated to those minor characters, which have connections to the heroes through cards, official artwork, animations, and dialogue.
Voidoll
Professor
The Professor is Voidoll's and #COMPASS' creator. They are only ever mentioned through Voidoll's voice lines: 「ワタシを創造した博士は、どこに行ってしまわれたのでしょう」 ("I wonder where the professor who created me has gone") and 「ハ、カセ……」 ("P-professor..."). They created all the other doll characters. It can also be assumed that this character created all of the technology shown in Voidoll's cards. The character in the PV for Dance Robot Dance may be the Professor.
Irregular
#IRREGULAR is a virus that attacks the #COMPASS system during Voidoll's Animated Short, her Ranking Season, her second Season Card, and the Irregular Takeover events. In the short, it corrupts and takes control of multiple Guardolls and uses them to attempt to take over the system by capturing portal keys. The infected Guardolls are destroyed by Voidoll.
Although it was added years later, Bugdoll is the most notable form of the #IRREGULAR virus.
Dolls
Dolls are various types of robots created by the Professor.
Guardoll
A form of security for #COMPASS. They appear unable to speak. They show up as major characters in Voidoll's Animated Short.
Eledoll
Eledoll is a robot with control over electricity.
Fladoll
Fladoll is a robot with control over fire.
Metadoll
Metadoll is a robot that has control over its form, being made of a liquid metal.
Unidoll
Unidoll is a robot that, judging by their full name, defends an area of space. Unidoll 2525 is a "Defense Installation Manager".
Justice
Main article: Justice Hancock Lore
Major Kitty
Major Kitty is a cat that got attached to Justice during a battle. Appears in Justice's Civil Engineering costume.
LOVE
LOVE is an android girl who appears in Justice Hancock's animated short.[1] She and Justice appear to be romantically attracted to each other. She can speak both English and Japanese.
MA'AM
MA'AM is a former Space Army Alliance soldier. She used to be the captain of the 4th Squad inside Space Army Alliance. Since retiring, she runs a snack bar called "Snack Justice" (スナック正義).
Jeanne
Lily
The talking cat who accompanies Jeanne. Her card calls her Jeanne's "Guardian". Lily is cheerful and excitable, serving as a positive (sometimes overly so) force to Jeanne's self-doubt. She constantly praises Jeanne, who humbly and politely asks her to stop.[Jeanne 1] Reflective of her card ability, Lily is able to heal people, as she tends to Jeanne's wounds after a battle[Jeanne 2] and after Jeanne falls down a flight of stairs.[Jeanne 3] In Jeanne's animated short, Bonds, she floats besides Mary to pray during battle.
Mary
One of Jeanne's close friends.
Because Mary is a common name, especially amongst Christians, it is unknown if this character is based on any real person. Her name may be inspired by Mary, mother of Jesus, or Mary Magdalene.
Gilles de Rais
The avant-garde of Jeanne's army who supports her as both a vanguard and friend. When Jeanne is upset at her flag being dirty, he reassures her that she doesn't have to carry every burden by herself.[Jeanne 4]
Gilles de Rais, Baron de Rais, was a real knight who served as Jeanne d'Arc's companion. (He may be better known for his serial child assaults and murders.)
Leon
A musketeer in Jeanne's army. Not much is known about the character, though he fights alongside the others in Jeanne's short and is briefly mentioned on a few occasions.
There are a number of real people this character might be a reference to. Notable possibilities are Léon-François Bénouville who painted the famous Jeanne d'Arc écoutant ses voix, and Léon Denis, an author who wrote "The Mystery of Jeanne d'Arc", a biography about the saint's life. Both lived hundreds of years after Jeanne's death.
Count Dunois
The Imperial Guard of Jeanne's army.
Jean d'Orléans, Count of Dunois, was a French military commander who worked alongside Jeanne d'Arc during the Siege of Orléans.

Ririka & Ruruka
Main article: Ririka Ruruka Lore
Magical Girls
While Degenerators are powered by stealing dreams, Magical Girls get strength by sharing them. Ririka and Ruruka have three magical girl friends at school, all with the same naming scheme.
Magical Girl Raraka
Raraka is associated with the color blue. She is described as an "active-looking girl", and is a member of the basketball club.
Magical Girl Roroka
Roroka is associated with the color red. She is described as a "quiet girl with her head down". Roroka is in the gardening club[RiriRuru 1].
Magical Girl Rereka
Rereka is associated with the color purple. She is described as an "intelligent older-sister-type girl". Rereka is slightly mysterious, saying that she "can see everything". She refers to herself as Ruruka's "onee-san", showing a sense of fond maturity. She is a hard worker at school and is a member of the chemistry club.[RiriRuru 2][RiriRuru 3].
Ruruka's Brother
He has a possessive crush on his older sister, Ruruka, being a "siscon". He also collects merch of her and Hapipon. When eating food Ruruka made for Ririka, he remarks, "Delicious...this is how my sister tastes...!"[RiriRuru 4]
Degenerators
The main enemy of the Magical Girls: evil shadow creatures who eat the dreams of innocents. Degenerators often take the form of "degenerated" monsters, animals, or even humanoids. Being shadows, they are defeated with the light of magical girls. When Degenerators "die", they turn into dust and disappear. As opposed to the Magical Girls' dream-based attacks, Degenerators' attacks are themed around nightmares, such as "Nightmare≒Prison" and "Nightmare≒Thunder"[RiriRuru 5].
Magical Square
The final enemy of Magical Girl Lyrica Luruca. In the animated shorts, its clock-like appearance is more obvious.[RiriRuru 6] As time ticks down, it slowly closes its eye to swallow Lyrica.[RiriRuru 7] After it is defeated, it turns back into the school rooftop, being the only (known) Degenerator[RiriRuru 8] that takes the form of an object instead of a creature or person. It is unknown how the Magical Square came to be, but it may tie into Luruca's theme of "running out of time".
Hapipon
The sentient "AI app" which gives the magical girls their power and instructs them on defeating Degenerators. They look like a slightly robotic, chibi mouse mascot and can be accessed from an app on their phone. They are bound to the respective girl's phone. They are only seen by magical girls. In the Alkali Rettousei spinoffs, they end their sentences with "☆" and usually speak cheerfully and cutesy".[RiriRuru 8] Their voice is described as "sounding like neither a boy nor a girl" and they are referred to instead as a "kid". Hapipon is usually selfish and slightly blunt, but has moments of kindness.
Atari
Game Bazooka
In Atari's universe, Game Bazooka is a fictional character and the protagonist of the GB game series. Atari is obsessed with the GB series and constantly stays up for days at a time to play it.
Known Game Bazooka games, in chronological order, include:
- Game Bazooka
- Game Bazooka "G"
- GB Racing
- GB Village
- Shin GB Legends
- GB-kun WARS
- Street Battlers 2 (appears as a playable character)
For information on Game Bazooka as a person, please see Game Bazooka Girl's section.
Dot Monsters
The Dot Monsters are the pixelated creatures that appear during Atari's Hero Skill.
Matoi
Fukagawa Mitsuyoshi

Noho
Main article: Soubiki Noho Lore
Student Council
Sumeragi Rin
The president of the student council. Sumeragi is extremely popular among the students, and even has her own fan club. She orders her fans to kill Noho so that the latter will not get the award for perfect school attendance. She acts as a sort of rival to Noho, who gets disappointed whenever Sumeragi refuses to fight her or even participate in the After-School Battle Royale. However, while Noho enjoys fighting for the sake of gyarigyari, Sumeragi wants to fight Noho specifically.
Compared to Noho's recklessness and self-destructive behavior, President Sumeragi is collected and reasonable. She even offers Noho advice on chainsaw maintenence so as to make their battles more "satisfying".
Like the rest of the Student Council, Sumeragi wears a white uniform instead of the normal blue. She is likely the character depicted in Cursed Bandages.
Gouda Kenshin
The blond council officer. He is in the Kendo Club, and challenges Noho head-on.
Seiryuu Tsukushi
The brown-haired council officer.
Club Members & School
Noho's school, Batoru Gakuen (破闘琉学園) is populated by high school "superhumans" (choujin), so a girl with a massive chainsaw isn't out of place[Noho 1]. Notable club members include Inazu Keika of the Soccer Club, a male member of the Chemistry Club, and the previously mentioned Gouda of the Kendo Club. All three attempt to kill Noho but none succeed.
In order to prepare her for the After-School Battle Royale, Sumeragi demands all of the school's clubs help Noho through training, combat, medical assistance, and more.
High School Boy
Exclusive to Noho's animated short. An unnamed boy who falls in love with Noho after seeing her walk to school every day. He follows her to Batoru Gakuen in order to confess. Even when Noho is gleefully killing her classmates, he is unbothered, even attempting to protect her. After Noho takes off her glasses in order to kill the Kendo Club member, he puts them back on so she can read his letter. Noho does not respond in the moment, but keeps the letter in her breast pocket (after stranding him at the top of the school).
Noho's fans
A seemingly never-ending stream of fans. They come from various different clubs, offering both battle support and challenges. However, they're always killed by Noho. They don't seem too mad about it, though.
Luciano
Main article: Luciano Lore
Wife
Luciano's unnamed wife, who remains alongside him even in death. Because of her untimely passing, Luciano is extremely depressed, and seeks revenge. The two of them used to be extremely close. During battle, he carries her coffin on his back.
After killing his rivals out of vengeance, Luciano puts the metal emblem of his victims, the "Coin of Balance", on her grave.
Luciano's Targets
In his animated short Dark Purple Guilt, Luciano is given three targets to kill. The old man giving him the orders may be the same mentioned in Luciano's adjustment comments.
Luciano allows each victim to make the first move before killing them and putting their Coins of Balance on his wife's grave.
Enfield
Luciano's arms dealer.
Vickers Maxim
Also known as "The Merchant," Maxim was a human trafficker in the Agenda District.
Tadaomi
Main article: Ouka Tadaomi & Gustav Heydrich Lore
Tsukiyasha
Tsukiyasha is a high-ranking staff officer for the Youka Empire. She advises Tadaomi on tactical maneuvers, a job which she does not appear to enjoy. Her "melancholy attitude"[Tadaomi 1] annoys Tadaomi, who is easily bored by her negativity. To appease Tadaomi's huge ego, Tsukiyasha asks that the #COMPASS management praise him, calling him "incredibly strong, cool, and reliable."[Tadaomi 2] Still, despite her brash attitude, she cares about her leader, scolding him ultimately out of worry.
In Tadaomi's animated short Axis, Tsukiyasha is upset that she must "clean up" after Tadaomi's tactical "messes". While the General admires Tadaomi's bravery, Tsukiyasha thinks he is reckless and childish. When given the opportunity to make a speech to the Kelpers, she simply sighs in frustration. However, once in battle, she is eager to sadistically kill enemies. She materializes from purple shadows to taunt an Atrias guard, then quickly and neatly slits his throat.[Tadaomi 3]
General
An unnamed general of the Youka Empire. He, alongside Officer Tsukiyasha, is a top leader under Ouka Tadaomi. He greatly admires Tadaomi's leadership without question. As soon as Tadaomi says to begin the invasion of Atrias, the General agrees, even before knowing what the strategy will be. While Tsukiyasha disapproves of Tadaomi's orders, the General follows them without hesitation.
Kelpers
The Kelpers are humanoid youkai with large red eyeballs instead of heads. They are grunt soldiers for the Youka Empire. Their size in official art varies, but they are very short and tend to range between 60-100 centimeters. Although they do not speak human language, instead emitting high-pitched garbled noises, the Kelpers seem to understand Tadaomi when he speaks Japanese.
König Jäger
The "Imperial Mechanical God" which became famous during a certain battle. König Jäger is a huge, boxy mecha with the Youka cherry blossom motif. Its name means "King Hunter" in German, further illustrating the bond between Youka and Balmgraf. Tadaomi has sat on its shoulder during battle to show dominance over enemies. It is kept near the Kikuka Garrison, a defensive flying stronghold.
Gustav
Main article: Ouka Tadaomi & Gustav Heydrich Lore
Kanone Feuer/Kugel
His name was revealed to be "Kugel" (クゲール) in Live Arena. There is a Kelper in both of his card arts, despite it being one of Gustav's themed cards, alluding to the partnership between Balmgraf and Youka. "Kanone Feuer" literally means "Canon Fire" in German. "Kugel" means "bullet", but is also a real surname meaning "ball" or "sphere", adding to his firearm motif.
Ange Soleil
The engineer who created Gustav's poison ventilation machine. "Ange Soleil" means "Angel Sun" in French, and is the only Alliance name without Japanese or German. Her Live Arena card describes her as "cold-hearted." Although she is not a ground soldier, she stays on the front lines with Gustav.[1] Though Gustav repeatedly asks her to increase his poison dosage, she is hesitant, knowing that his death would significantly affect the invasion and morale. Nonetheless, she is confident in his abilities and continues her research. She calls Gustav "Commander-dono" (指揮官殿).
Pau Reiche
Stark Tote
This mysterious figure's mouth is stitched shut and his eyes are completely red. He has purple tubes of poison attached to his back similarly to Gustav. His card may give insight as to the process Gustav underwent to become the weapon he is today. ("Stark Tote" means "strong death" in Germa, though the adjective form for "Starker" would be more accurate.)
Researcher
A researcher who appears briefly in Grave alongside child Gustav. Like most of Gustav's characters, he wears Balmgraf's four-pointed star, except on a lab coat instead of military uniform. His clipboard has Gustav's information, including charts and schematics about the boy. As he is unnamed, some fans nickname him "Reality-onii-san" because he appears during the lyric「リアリティーだけ切り取ったその姿」("You, a figure cut out from only reality")
Nations in Tadaomi and Gustav's universe
Sided with Youka
Youka Empire
The empire which Ouka Tadaomi rules over. It is styled after 1940's Japan, with Imperial-age architecture and street trams[Tadaomi 3]. It is populated by youkai—traditional Japanese monsters—including Tadaomi, Tsukiyasha, the Demonic General, and the Kelpers. Its name is a combination of 「妖」 (monster, rumour) and 「華」 (flower, flashiness, splendour), and may be a pun on 「桜華(おうか)」. Youka's symbol, similarly to Ouka's name, is a cherry blossom.
Youka is a fairly isolationist country, apart from its alliance with Balmgraf. It uses a different date/month system than the rest of the world. Youkai rely on the moon for power, and as such, the lunar phase and current weather are an important part of their calendar system. There are many beautiful cherry blossom trees in Youka, and Tadaomi has held viewing festivals for his citizens.[Tadaomi 4]
Balmgraf
The nation that Gustav commands. Like Tadaomi, he has fought on the front lines.
Sided with Atrias
Republic of Atrias
The main enemy of Youka. It is allied with Listania[Tadaomi 3] and Sweel. Tadaomi thinks Atrias is cowardly and wishes to destroy it.
Kingdom of Sweel
Formerly neutral,[1] Sweel allied with Atrias in order to protect themselves from an impending invasion from Youka.
Listainian Federation
An Atrian official says that reinforcements from Listania have made their way into Youka territory.[Tadaomi 3]
Nikola
Main article: Nikola Tesla Lore
Alexandra
The eldest Tesla sibling. In her card art, she is nonchalantly electrocuting a human test subject. Nikola seems to look up to her, as he asks her for advice on redesigning his coil[Tesla 1] and calls out her name when scared[Tesla 2].
Risky traps are a shared love for at least three of the Tesla siblings and not treated as a real threat or danger. The Tesla family has a sort of coming-of-age ritual where one must create an ultimate prank over the summer. Alexandra's prank was turning every chair into an electric chair.
Valvala
The second eldest Tesla sibling. Similarly to Alexandra, Valvala's card art depicts her with a relaxed expression as she electrocutes a man. She speaks slowly and somewhat cryptically, and written dialogue uses frequent ellipses. Despite both of them tortuing people on their cards, Valvala's obsession with bombs seems more sadistic and malicious than her older sister's. Her ultimate summer prank involved exploding as much as she possibly could.[Tesla 3]
Eleonora
The third eldest Tesla sibling. Nikola mentions her helping to modify his shoes.[Tesla 4] Her ultimate summer prank involved music and loud noises.[Tesla 3]
Clara
The fourth eldest Tesla sibling. Alongside Eleonora, she designs Nikola's clothes.[Tesla 5] Her ultimate summer prank was filling rooms with insane amounts of cookies.[Tesla 3]
The real Nikola Tesla had four siblings as well. However, he had three sisters (one of whom was younger), and his older brother died when Tesla was young.[Tesla 6] None of them share names or noticeable similarities with the #COMPASS characters.
The Error
Rika and Seni
The "Handicraft Arms", robotic hands that Tesla fights with. They only have four fingers each. The right hand is Rika, and the left is Seni.[Tesla 7]
They may be inspired by the real Nikola Tesla's "very big hands" and "remarkably big thumbs". It could also reference Tesla's 1894 radiography experiments in which he took X-ray photos of his own hands.[Tesla 6]

Zenit
The White-Winged Knight of the Blue Palace. A long time ago, Zenit predicted Thorne's possession by Granat.[Blue Palace 1]
Logkiy
The Green Light Knight of the Blue Palace. Logkiy and Adam often train for battle together. Logkiy speaks in a rougher and more impolite tone than Adam.[Blue Palace 2]
Alma
Son
Granat
Viselitsa
Although his card describes him as a "prison knight" or gaoler, Viselitsa is also Thorne's mentor and instructor. Although he is menacing and cruel at times, Viselitsa is a powerful magic user. Thorne both admires him and fears him, as he explains to Zenit "Viselitsa is scary, but he explains things very clearly." For example, he accurately notices that Thorne attempts to copy Adam's fighting style, so Viselitsa advises Thorne to "play to [his] own strengths".[Blue Palace 3]

Reiya
MMM
A multi-dimensional secret society made up of psychics and occultists. Although their goals and motives are still unclear, they rely on the "Akashic Records"[Reiya 1] in order to "integrate their collective unconsciousness". Reiya also mentions a "World Tree" and "World Program" that seem to be damaged and in need of reconstruction.[Reiya 2] It is unknown why MMM is wanted by public security, but it is likely related to the Shibuya Incident.
In the Parallel Layer music video, there are multiple different interpretations of the acronym, including:
- Mystic Mirage Messengers
- Mission: Metropolis Management (case01 - The Chaser)
- Mortal & Mutant bioMaterial (case02 - Special Containment Patient)
Möbius
Möbius is a tall, gaunt man with similar face and hair to Reiya's. He dresses in formal, steampunk-like clothing, complete with a long coat and top hat. He also has a scar under his left eye. Möbius is accompanied by a bird with matching eyes, cravat, and scar.
Möbius carries what seems to be a pipe, but it actually creates bubbles. When Reiya first saught out Möbius, the latter was unfamiliar with MMM, but was able to inform Reiya of the "invisible world reflected in the bubbles". In Reiya's ranking season, the five MMM members blow bubbles together.

Rinne
Chigiri Tokage
Despite being the Spider Sew Clan's personal advisor, Rinne distrusts him, believing him to be sneaky and dishonest. Tokage is soft-spoken and respectful on the surface, but argues sarcastically with Rinne.[Rinne 1] Although some other members do not have visible spiderwebs in their card art, Tokage is the only member of the Spider Sew Clan with a lizard tattoo.
Usatarou
The Spider Sew Clan's "mascot", an amigurumi doll. At the end of Rinne's MVP animation, he moves on his own to look at the camera.
Kumonui Shoutarou & Kumonui Tsumugi
Shoutarou is the third-generational head of the Spider Sew Clan. Despite his young-looking face, he is actually 35 years old.[Rinne 1] Shoutarou values righteousness, humanity, and coexistence, but is also crafty and willing to spend lots of money. He appointed Togake as his personal advisor against Rinne's wishes.[Rinne 2]
On the other hand, Tsumugi is quiet and refined. Although most of the clan calls her "nee-san" (big sister, formal), Rinne and Tokage call her "anego" (informal). She is 32 years old and loves her husband Shoutarou very deeply.[Rinne 1]
Rinne was appointed as the chaperone and bodyguard of the Kumonui's daughter, Kumonui Wanaori, and has been madly in love with her ever since.
Makigawa, Janome, & Koyama
Three lower-ranking yakuza who look up to Rinne. They call him "Kashira", a shortening of "Wakagashira" (the 2nd in command of a yakzua family).
Usakichi, Pyonsuke, Marujiro, Usasuke, & Usakado
Rinne's other amigurumi dolls.[Rinne 3][Rinne 4]
Stellea & Lovey
Cermait
A slave hunter interested in capturing Stellea and Lovey for being rare species. Because elves are weak to fire, he uses flaming arrows against Stellea. He is defeated by Lovey.[StelleaLovey 1] In Irish mythology, Cermait[StelleaLovey 2] was killed by Lugh[StelleaLovey 3], a spear-wielding deity (and the namesake of Stellea's weapon).
Glashtyn
Stellea hunts these easily spooked creatures, using her spear's silence on the player as to not noisily scare them off.[StelleaLovey 4] They are based off aquatic horse-like monsters of the same name from Gaelic and Manx folklore.[StelleaLovey 5]
Bat
The bat butler who follows Lovey around. Possibly a resident of Luna Plana Castle.
